Developed by Harvard Law School, Zero-L is an online (fully asynchronous) course designed to ensure that everyone can gain the foundational legal knowledge needed to thrive in law school and to enjoy a deeper understanding of how the U.S. legal system works in everyday life.

Originally piloted at Harvard Law School for our own incoming degree students and with a handful of other law schools, Zero-L (a play on the terminology used for law student years: first year is 1-L, and so on) was then offered to all law schools to welcome their incoming students (B2B, business to business). During this time, we received many inquiries from prospective learners outside of law school cohorts. We then “lifted and shifted” Zero-L to create a B2C (business to customer) instance and welcome individual learners around the world.

This presentation covers the thought framework and technical plans and operations required to “lift-and-shift” an existing B2B course to provide a B2C version for learners around the world, as well as the broader impacts this journey has had on professional and lifelong learning at HLS Online.
