This session explores the critical role of technology competence in legal education. Law librarians play a pivotal role in legal education by providing a significant portion of technology instruction and fostering innovation in ABA-accredited law schools. Law librarians achieve these outcomes by leveraging their expertise in information management and technological literacy. Through case studies and data from the presenters’ Legal Technology Longitudinal Study, this session will call attention to how law librarians have contributed to developing technology competence at ABA-accredited law schools.  The session will discuss the presenters’ proposed definition of technology competence and its importance in creating a rigorous program of legal education per ABA Standard 301.

Additionally, participants will:

  1. Gain practical insights on how to integrate technology competence into their curricula (at the course and program levels);
  2. Explore strategies for collaborative efforts between law librarians, faculty and IT to enhance curriculum development; and
  3. Benefit from case studies and data from the presenters’ Legal Technology Longitudinal Study as real-world examples of successful technology integration in ABA-accredited law schools.
